In a funny way this did make me smile - at your calm acceptance of the inevitability of the pebble - your writing style reminds me a little of the late beloved Douglas Adams in the wryness of the humour!
I found his grave at Highgate Cemetary is most moving …. Very plain with simply ‘Douglas Adams Author and then ‘42’ on the flower pot holder … and visitors have left tons of biros in his memory in a pot or two (not great for the environment but a nice touch in terms of poignancy)

Ah! I’m sure the biros are mostly harmless! I will have to visit there soon…
